Beginning off-road riding doesn't have to be full of stress and crashes. On the contrary - if enduro riding is learned correctly from the very basics, entering the world of off-road can be enjoyable, safe and rewarding. That's exactly what we tried to do during our Level 1 Enduro School course, which took place at the National Motocross Center MX Sverepec.
Two riders Juraj and Mikuláš – beginners with no previous experience riding off-road – plucked up the courage and decided to try an off-road course on their adventure motorcycles. One of the motorcycles was the iconic BMW R 1200 GS, the other the stylish Moto Guzzi V85TT Travel. The goal was clear – to get acquainted with the basics of off-road riding, learn the correct techniques for controlling the motorcycle and gain confidence when moving from asphalt to unpaved surfaces.
Sequence, safety and individual approach
During the day, we focused on gradually building riding confidence. We started with simple exercises focused on correct stance, weight distribution, and working with the throttle and brakes at slow speeds. Thanks to the individual approach and emphasis on safe pacing, the riders felt comfortable and were able to focus on proper technique.
Even though it drizzled in places during the day, the weather did not affect the course in any way - the surface in the area remained ideal for training and the slight humidity even helped with better traction.
Workshop: How to properly set up your motorcycle for off-road use
An integral part of the day was a practical workshop on the correct setup of a motorcycle for off-road riding. For many, an incorrectly set-up motorcycle is the main reason why off-road riding seems more difficult than it really is. Both riders appreciated the new knowledge – after adjusting the position of the handlebars, controls and the correct setup of the chassis, they rode noticeably easier and with more control.
No stress, no falls, with a smile
The course was completed without any technical problems or crashes. Both riders took away not only new skills, but also the desire to continue their development. And that is the goal of our motorcycle school – to teach, encourage and show that off-road riding on a touring enduro can be safe, effective and, above all, fun.
